Quick Holiday Decor Tips

I helped out with the holiday decor at my parent’s house over Thanksgiving and took a few photos to use as examples for my holiday decorating tips! Hope you find them helpful.

Weekend in NYC!

Had a wonderful weekend in New York! There’s a great (and cheap) bus service I found that takes you directly from DC to NYC in just a couple hours! Affordable and fun little weekend trip! I packed in as much as I possibly could in 48 hours so here are some of my favorite shots. I’ve been to New York several times before, but never during the holidays. It snowed all day Saturday when I was there so that made the city even more magical (in my snow-loving-biased-opinion).

Every neighborhood has cute little Christmas tree stands set up with live trees to purchase! Wish DC did that 🙂

This series begins my (not so brilliant but kind of amazing) idea to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge in a complete white out snow storm…

My hair literally froze like this- stuck to my head from the wind and snow. Got a few funny looks but oh well, it was still a beautiful stroll.

Also went for a stroll on the snowy high line- but they had little riding snow blowers clearing everything off.

Most of the plant life on the high line was dead/frozen but I was pleasantly surprised to find holly & berries! The snow falling just made it even more festive.

Union Square Christmas Market! Stopped there before I left- so adorable and full of amazing gifts for everyone! Too bad I finished my shopping early this year- but I did manage to buy a couple ornaments for myself and a fantastic piece of art from a local shop.

Perfect weekend! Who knows, one day I might call this city “home.”

Christmas in DC

Love this city around the holidays! Everyone should visit if you have the chance. If you can’t, here’s a peak around beautiful DC:

Vintage Finds at Miss Pixie’s: Pt 2

On my recent visit to Miss Pixie’s, I found a tray, two metal tins and three vintage disco ornaments… all for $25 total!

My desk was in need of holiday cheer, so I put the ornaments in a tall vase. 2013-12-05 20.34.58     2013-12-05 20.28.24

Holiday Decor: Updates

After decorating my parent’s house, I figured it was about time to do my own apartment! I debated getting a tall (but relatively thin) fake tree this year, but ran out of time and didn’t find one I love quite yet, so hopefully that will be next year. Instead, I popped over to Whole Foods after work and bought a little 3 ft tree (with stand already attached, thankfully.)

Here’s the little tree riding home with me in a cab. The thought of taking it on the bus or metro was a nightmare so I decided a cab was a smarter idea 🙂

Holidays in Kansas City

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I went “home” to Kansas City to see family and friends. Here’s a little taste of Thanksgiving and Christmas decorating!

Cranberry turkey! I kiddingly told my little cousin to carve a turkey on the top and she actually did- and it’s quite amazing. She’s a budding artist.

2013-11-29 17.27.25

I sent a Pinterest link to my mom awhile ago for a fruit platter turkey. On Thanksgiving day, my mom, sister and cousins sliced up the fruit and arranged it.
