Year One: Entryway

If you might remember from last year, I chronicled all of the updates in my old studio apartment after a year of living there. I can’t believe that it’s already been just a few weeks shy of one year in my (new) studio apartment, but it’s always fun to look back and see how it’s progressed and changed! I’ll be doing year one updates the rest of this week and most of next week, so stay tuned for a new area of the apartment each day. Starting off in the entryway!

I almost forgot how many changes I made to this little spot before looking back at old photos. This is just a few days after I moved in: 2014-08-22 14.57.32-1Then I added the lovely gold triangle wall decals, art and over the door storage:2014-09-01 17.57.24 Then I used the Ikea Raskog cart for a temporary entry table/mail/storage drop. 2014-10-12 18.22.32I later updated the little cart with a few DIYs and decorative touches:

I love walking into this space every day, greeted by the decals, art, accessories and most importantly, that gorgeous little table. _BEtoTKnvL7f5d4i1jLiLnf51C4ThsohhUVntmGzA1U3khMY9yhbEd3yF-yGKj7HUfif29vwI2rWbepK28-XR8bEuX-8FG7pmFvgGkSdfGuJ7CoDpa77kOLKtdqviV3WMc0VWcWulm1wGfwy_NKhH67qUw8GS4IWXbpbA4Fyn6-MDXlIZoEYMlgWqCe-fRS8NKzv6IKfqLRLJ9jvAnOz8RERShm1s3vs___ow1o0hT68TRoS9E3qS0z-RfoUx4HsjwZmQO-z5ASsCS1SbCoOVX77EEmYj5EMLJp5ynrQdJBYo

Give Your Walls a New Look in Five Minutes

Looking for a quick and easy way to change up a look in your entryway, living room, office, etc? Rotating art is a simple solution that will instantly change the look of your space. While I love all the art I’ve collected over the years, looking at the same pieces every day can get a bit boring. I suggest keeping several pieces on rotation, especially in high-traffic areas of your apartment or home. You can pretend that you live in your very own gallery! My entryway was in need of a quick update, so I switched out a piece of art and it’s refreshing to walk into my apartment and see something new!

Here’s the before:

While I adore this painting, (bought in Monmarte, Paris while studying abroad many years ago) I’ve had it for a long time and don’t always notice it anymore. When it’s time to rotate it back in, I’ll actually be delighted to see it again!2015-02-14 15.33.07 2015-02-14 15.33.10

And after:
This new piece of art will grab my attention as soon as I walk in the door! I visited Venice many years ago and this brings back wonderful memories and makes me want to return.

Post-Christmas Refresh

Just in case any of you think my apartment always looks perfectly styled and spotless… you’re definitely wrong:2015-01-15 11.51.522015-01-15 11.52.49

After returning from the holidays, travel, packing up Christmas decorations and unpacking Christmas presents and a few new purchases, my apartment looked like a bit of a tornado zone. I used the post-Christmas cleanup as an opportunity to give the whole apartment a little refresh and a slightly new look.

Starting off with a few new throw pillows from Target:  2015-01-19 13.11.36

I was getting tired of a couple ones I’ve had on the couch for years and swapped out a few old ones for new patterns and color! 2015-01-19 13.16.48Here’s the new look on the couch! Incorporating new and old. I am slightly obsessed. It’s amazing how a few small changes can transform a space.2015-01-24 15.51.06

I also incorporated some of my new vintage finds around the apartment as well, starting with these amazing little boxwoods:2015-01-25 14.24.272015-01-25 14.24.45

And I added one of my Christmas presents, the Elements of Style book to my coffee table stack:2015-01-25 14.25.17

Bar and entryway update with a few vintage finds and my latest DIY project:

2015-01-25 13.07.29

The bar got a small refresh with the addition of my DIY Press for Champagne art and vintage brass candlesticks.

Another angle from the entryway:2015-01-25 13.08.20

The dining area got a few small updates as well:2015-01-25 13.34.24

My mom made me a cute table runner from Ikea fabric and I added another Christmas present, these adorable West Elm salt and pepper shakers, to the table:2015-01-25 14.23.29

Last but not least, my little end table next to my couch got a fun little pop of color with a pink Oh Joy for Target cup filled with wine corks:2015-01-25 14.24.12

I love my little apartment refresh and it’s an affordable way to give a new look to your space!

Vintage Finds from Virginia

I recently went to a couple vintage/antique stores in Virginia and found a few great treasures! Of course, my gold/brass addiction couldn’t be ignored, but I also found two mini boxwoods, a Parisian inspired sign, a decorative dish and a copper tea light holder. All at affordable prices!

And most importantly…. an entryway table! I fell in love with this little guy the moment I saw it. Of course, the powder blue is not going to be around long, but the style, size and charm is just what I was looking for. I’m currently using the Ikea Raskog cart as a temporary entryway table/cart, but as soon as I repaint this table, it will be permanently in the entry. I’m 99% sure I’m going to go with a high-gloss black for the table. Thoughts? Stay tuned for a DIY! 2015-01-20 15.41.04

I’ve found a home for a couple other treasures as well… photos below:2015-01-25 13.06.32  2015-01-25 13.06.03  2015-01-25 14.26.02 2015-01-25 14.27.20 2015-01-25 14.27.32 2015-01-25 14.25.40

Entryway Storage

Finally had time to organize the Ikea Raskog cart in my entryway. When I moved into my new place, I had it there temporarily because I couldn’t figure out where else to put it, and as the unpacking slowly winded down, I realized that it actually works in the space.

The initial chaos of the first stages of unpacking:

Slight improvement, but still needed a bit of sorting and organization:

2014-09-01 17.21.13

Final result! Now I have a place for outgoing mail, bills, stamps, etc. and added my little vintage gold bowl to hold change and my laundry card. Eventually, I might want to invest in a small console table, but for now, this works and fits perfectly in the little spot in my entryway. More photos below:2014-10-12 18.19.30  2014-10-12 18.21.54 2014-10-12 18.22.08 2014-10-12 18.22.20 2014-10-12 18.22.32

I also purchased this rose gold letter sorter from CB2 a couple months ago and finally started using it. It looks great and keeps my kitchen island much more organized. 2014-10-12 18.26.47
