2016 New Collections: West Elm

Happy 2016! With the new year comes new catalogs and lots of online browsing… so I’ve put together some of my favorites from the new arrivals at my favorite stores. Starting out with West Elm.

Seating: The curved lines are such a welcome contrast to a lot of boxy furniture you see these days. I’m a sucker for those mid-century modern legs, and the brass tulip bottom on the darker blue chair is perfection! Though the blush and brass combo in the last chair is making me want to throw my budget out the window and buy two immediately.

Storage and other furniture: These are great examples of pieces that are so simple, yet make a bold design statement. You can really tell the quality craftsmanship and the marble/wood combo is always one of my favorites.

Beds: I love upholstered beds with both a head and foot board, but these take luxury to the next level. I can’t remember when (if ever) I’ve seen pleating on a bed like this… it’s so gorgeous. The second bed is a velvet fabric and looks quite comfortable, and completely stylish.

Decor and Accessories: The unique shape of this mirror is eye-catching and I love the rose gold tone. I’ve seen similar adorable planters floating around Etsy for the past year but I’m glad they’re finally arriving at brick and mortar stores! Now, if only I had the skills to keep plants alive. You know I can’t go wrong with a good throw pillow and these three do not disappoint.

Lighting: All three of these lighting options are so elegant and I would LOVE to swap out my ugly rental lighting for these beauties ASAP.

2015 Highlights: Craigslist Finds, Tips and Transformations

I really stepped up my Craigslist game this year and was able to find a bunch of awesome pieces (one was even free!) for my new place. If you missed anything else in the 2015 Highlights series so far, check out the other posts here:

Starting off with my biggest (and my personal favorite) Craigslist gem, the mid-century modern credenza. It definitely needed some love and attention so I brought it back to life with the help of a Young House Love tutorial and the results were even better than I could have hoped for. Here’s a look back at the evolution:

2015 was certainly a banner-year for Craigslist items. And it proves you can furnish spaces with beautiful, affordable pieces! It just takes a little patience and some online digging. To help you find a Craigslist score of your own, check out these posts:

2015 Highlights: Favorite DIY Projects

Next up in the 2015 Highlights series… my favorite DIY projects from this year. I’ve been slacking a bit in the DIY realm this fall and winter, but plan to do more projects in 2016. Even though 2015 didn’t include a ton of DIYs, I had time to do a couple projects and am sharing some of my favorites below!

2015 Highlights: Getting Organized

Now a common theme among the last several years… 2015 included an apartment move. With that, comes lots of packing, unpacking and general organization. Last year, I did a 2014 Highlights series and wanted to start that up again as we’re approaching the end of 2015 (how did that happen?!).

First up in the series, getting organized. I know this is on many resolution lists for next year, so hopefully these tips and tricks from the past year on my site will help jump start your organizing spree! It’s definitely a daunting process, but feels wonderful once done, and it just seems to make everyday living easier when you don’t have to search for something in the kitchen, bathroom, closet, etc. I’m highlighting some of my favorite posts over the past year, some include moving-related organization, and others are from my old apartment and now, my ‘new’ place. Stay tuned this week for more 2015 highlights coming up!

Dream Bathroom Designs with PlumbTile

Despite having a rental apartment, I always have an ongoing list of designs and inspiration for a future ‘dream home’ where I can design and remodel as I see fit, especially in the kitchen and bathroom. Until that day comes, I’m happy just to plot and browse around online for inspiration and design ideas. I’ve always wanted to design a bathroom and when PlumbTile reached out, I figured this was the perfect opportunity to put together some ‘dream bathroom’ designs.

PlumbTile has a huge selection of bathroom resources, from tile, to vanities, knobs and pulls, lighting and more. I created two bathroom designs: black, white and brass and a global glam look.plumbtile

The black, white and brass look: The black and white striped tile makes a bold statement on the floor, and I would use the white subway tile on the walls and the black tile with greek key pattern at the top of the white tile. When using the same colors, it’s ok to mix patterns, especially because the white tile will break up the two patterns. To compliment the color scheme, I chose this simple black vanity with a lighter colored top. I love the combination of black, white and brass, so I chose a gorgeous flush mounted fixture for the ceiling and simple, yet beautiful, sconces for the wall.

The global glam look: I started with the global, vintage-looking tile for the flooring, and the white tile for the walls, in a parquet type of pattern. It’s a bit different than a traditional pattern, but it adds visual interest and makes the white tile look unique and out of the ordinary. The white vanity keeps things simple and I am a sucker for gorgeous marble, so adding marble sinks on top of this vanity would look really elegant and classic. For a metallic touch, I added this brass and lucite wall-mounted lighting fixture.

Thanks to PlumbTile for sponsoring this post. All images are from PlumbTile, but the designs and commentary are my own. If you’re interested in sponsoring a post or advertising, please contact me here.
