DIY Christmas Candle Holder

Inspired by the cute post over on the DIY Playbook, I wanted to create my own easy Christmas candle holder. This took a few minutes and only required a few items (all of which I already had on hand).

  • Mason jar
  • Cranberries
  • Tea light candle
  • Greenery (I snipped a few branches off the back of my tiny tree)

Now it lives on my coffee table for the next couple days until I leave town for Christmas but I’m so glad I found the post and recreated it to enjoy for a couple more days.

I’ll definitely do this next year as well! Thanks to DIY Playbook for the idea.

Christmas 2014: All About Plaid

A small tribute to my love of plaid this season…

I helped decorate at my family’s home in Kansas City and chose this big plaid bow to hang atop our beautiful tree this year. It looks great day and night and is a classic pattern that will never go out of style.

This is my second year getting a tiny tree for my studio apartment and I had to bring in a plaid element here as well. I found this mini tree skirt (who knew?!) at Target a couple weeks ago and couldn’t pass it up. Stay tuned for a new post tomorrow with all of my Christmas decor in the apartment!

15 minute DIY Holiday Decorations

It’s almost that wonderful time of year again!

I’ll be posting several holiday related entries, so keep an eye out for more in the next couple weeks!

I have several clear and decorative vases (mostly cheap ones from Ikea) so I figured I would incorporate fun holiday items in the vases and place around the apartment.

I was pleasantly surprised at Target’s huge selection of holiday decor this year! My local store is usually pretty picked over and minimalist in terms of holiday items.

I bought:

Cinnamon scented pinecones *sorry, no link. Hopefully at your local Target!

Gold glitter pinecones (much easier to buy than DIY in my opinion)

Holly/berries *sorry, no link. Hopefully at your local Target!

Fraiser Fir Candle

Had to throw in one of my favorite candles of all time- Fraiser Fir! I have this little one and a giant one. Smells like a freshly cut Christmas tree.

Apologies for the bizarre shadows, the sun and trees weren’t cooperating this morning!

Fall Updates, Part 2

A couple more changes around the apartment to get ready for the cooler weather!

My system of throwing my work bag, purse, jackets and scarves on the dining table when I get home every night was starting to drive me crazy. I definitely don’t have room in the apartment for a coat rack (as much as I would like one) so I had to come up with another solution.

Meet the cute over door coat rack (I can’t find a link for) from the Container Store. Fits over the outside of my closet door and provides great accessible and stylish storage for all of my coats, bags and even my umbrella!

Now my dining table can function as a dining table rather than an after work “catch all.”

Speaking of the dining table, now that it’s looking cleaned up and functional again… I got a cheap gold charger plate from JoAnn for $3 and thought it would be a festive addition to my Fall produce! I’m sure I’ll be using it for other holiday decor as well. Or just everyday use with a couple candles, too.

Next update: I received my $10 birthday reward in the mail from World Market Explorer program. Sign up! It’s free and you get member discounts and birthday reward. I could buy that entire store if I had the money. I’ve had a basket on my list for awhile so I figured the reward was the perfect sign to buy one. I browsed the multitude of baskets on World Market’s website and found a couple I loved. I decided on this one in “Large” at the store. It fits perfectly between my couch and accent chair and I finally have a place to put all my couch blankets and throws. Storage and Style.
