Copenhagen Studio Apartment Tour

Greetings from Copenhagen (I wish)! Today’s  apartment tour is a beautiful and thoughtful studio by Helene.

Starting off with a little floor plan to get a sense of where everything is located within the apartment:

The little galley kitchen has just enough room for everything you need. And check out the wine bottle storage on the top of the cabinet…brilliant !10_SSB_kitchenThis adorable shower curtain keeps this small bathroom looking light and fun.9_SSB_bathroomOnto the genius solution for storage/lofted beds… Helene explains the idea and execution for the DIY below:

My boyfriend and I build the platform in December last year because we needed more space in our small apartment. Before, we had the bed on the floor hidden behind curtains and we also have a big Expedit bookcase from IKEA and some smaller ones around the walls of the apartment which took up way too much space. The platform is built on five small Billy bookcases, two Malm dressers and two Bestå shelf units all from IKEA. The five Billy bookcases are now stuffed with all our books. The two dressers contains our clothes and the Bestå shelf unit is a part of my desk area on the outer side of the platform. The tabletop of my desk is attached to the units and we can flip it up and lock it to the wall to clear the space if we are having a dinner party and need space for a bigger dining table.
The walls of the platform are made of plywood and the platform floor is made of particleboards. We used hundreds of screws to put it all together and we also did some serious drilling to make sure the platform got safely attached to the walls of the apartment. The whole thing turned out very stable. In a way, the platform now works as a separate “upstairs” bedroom and a library/basement/storage room (for boxes, etc.) and we are very happy about the way it divides the room and all the extra space we now have.

Combined with a few accessories, it really fits right in with the rest of the space. Mounting the tv on the wall is a great way to save precious floor space and the art surrounding it makes it almost blend in.4_SSB_diningtable_deskIt looks like this apartment gets great natural light and that makes all the difference to have a space feel more open and airy.  6_SSB_diningtable There’s even a little balcony! By keeping the furniture to a minimum and emphasizing clean lines, the apartment doesn’t feel cramped.7_SSB_livingareaThanks again to Helene for letting me feature your space!
